Worthington Wins Healthy Ohioans Award

In August, Gov. Bob Taft recognized Worthington as one of the healthiest communities in Ohio with a Healthy Ohioans Award. This award is based on the city’s efforts to make Worthington and other communities more healthy and well-rounded. The application was submitted by the Healthy Worthington Coalition, Inc.

The Healthy Worthington Coalition, Inc., which began in January 2004, is one of the organizations striving to improve the quality of life in the greater Worthington community. The goal of Healthy Worthington is to promote the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual well-being of residents through programs and education.

We are very excited to receive this award and to have Worthington be recognized by the State of Ohio as a healthy community,” said Sandy Byers, Chair of Healthy Worthington. “It is an honor for our city and requires collaboration, a belief in our purpose, and committed volunteers. We have had the support of the Worthington City Council and staff, schools, libraries, sponsors, members, volunteers and the Chamber of Commerce. We are most grateful for this cooperation and interest as we continue to grow and improve. We aim to assist every person to ‘Navigate to a Healthier Future…in body, mind and spirit.”

The coalition’s 2006 sponsors are Mount Carmel Health System, City of Worthington, and OhioHealth.

Additional events sponsored this year include the Historic Church Walk with the Worthington Historic Association, an Arts Walk with the Worthington Arts Council, Food for Families collection with Leadership Worthington, and a Health Lecture Series with the Worthington Libraries. TOGETHER WE TRULY IMPACT OUR COMMUNITY.

As a result of our award winning community, Columbus Alive focused its suburban pullout section on Worthington. Healthy Communities not only includes medical programs, but successful businesses, schools, art programs, libraries, parks and recreation programs, etc. It primarily focuses on collaborative efforts in the community.
