The Healthy Worthington Coalition has a membership category for Business members who want to learn more about why creating a Healthy Worksite Initiative makes Economic sense. The other is to help Worthington become a healthier community to work, live, play and worship in.

Goal:

• Increase Health Awareness
• Encourage participation in health activities and provide programs that support healthy choices such as our “Healthy Lunches!”
• Create a health network for people to learn more about healthy life choices
• Help organizations create healthier, happier and more productive cultures
• To help Worthington Businesses win The Healthy Ohio Healthy Worksite Award

Why Wellness?

Healthcare is one of the most pressing issues for corporate America. In 1998, the cost per employee per year for healthcare was $3,512. In 2007, it will reach over $7,500 per employee per year. These increases are eroding business profits. Worksite stress costs over $300 billion each year. According to the Center for Disease Control, physical inactivity is responsible for more than $75 billion in medical costs. While $33 billion in healthcare costs and $49 billion in lost productivity are due to heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes from obesity and poor nutrition. Something needs to be done.

The Healthy Worthington Business Team will help companies find basic wellness information. Sponsor Fun “Healthy Lunches!” and offer links to the Healthy Ohio Initiative on how to develop a wellness initiative and win The Healthy Ohio Healthy Worksite Award.
